As you have all heard by now, John L. Smith recently announced his decision to return to Arkansas and our Athletic Director—Jerry Bovee—has announced that Jody Sears will be taking over the helm of our football program for the 2012 season.
“I’m extremely honored by the opportunity to be in a position to be named interim head coach at Weber State,” Coach Sears said. “We have some great things in place here at Weber State and I look forward to working with our team this season.”
Coach Sears joined our staff during the spring of 2012 and has been working as the defensive coordinator–a role he will continue to fill even as he serves as the interim head coach.

NFL Draft Prospect
Posted by williamswan on Apr 26, 2012 in News | 0 comments
JC Oram woke up this morning in wonder—anxiously waiting to see if he would hear his name called from the podium of the 2012 NFL Draft. As today marks the first day of the NFL Draft, the possibilities for JC appear both endless and optimistic. “My agent thinks I have a good possibility of being drafted anywhere from the fourth round all the way to the last round. There a few teams that have really shown a ton of interest in me over the past few weeks. I have done some individual workouts for teams and feel like I did pretty well. We will just have to wait and see how things are going to work out,” he said.
We, too, are optimistic about JC’s future. Having the opportunity to coach him for the past five years has been as a rewarding experience as any in my career. JC came to Weber State as a very young freshmen, however after a few years of personal growth and maturity, JC has become a strong man and a leader. He has become well-respected on and off the field by his teammates & by his coaches. He recently achieved one of his major life goals last week by graduating early from Weber State with a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Applied Science and Technology. Since graduation, JC has been spending countless hours focusing on playing at the next level.
We would like to wish JC & his family–and all of the other Weber State football players that are working to continue their football careers–the best of luck over the next few days. We hope that it works out for each of them and that they will be blessed with an opportunity to further pursue their dreams!
Thanks,
Colton Swan

Spring Game & WSU Athletic Graduates
Posted by Nia on Apr 23, 2012 in News | 0 comments
The Weber State football team wrapped up spring football with the annual Purple and White Game Saturday night at Stewart Stadium and it was the defense that led the way in the approximately 110-play scrimmage.
After a 20-minute lightning delay the scrimmage began under the lights and it was the defense that made some noise for the Wildcats.
WSU recorded four interceptions with red-shirt freshman Roman Valenzuela recording two pick. Another red-shirt freshman, Devonte Johnson, had another pick of 25-yards and David James had a 45-yard interception, both nearly returned for touchdowns.
On the offensive side the ‘Cats still had some good performances as they recorded over 250 yards. C.J. Tuckett had totaled 95 yards on 11 carries, including a 55-yard run. Josh Booker had 15 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown and Barrinton Collins had 44 yards rushing.
Junior quarterback Jordan Adamczyk finished the day 19-31 for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns, despite throwing a pair of interceptions. Tyler Parson finished 5-12 for 44 yards and also had two touchdowns.
We would like to congratulate all of the Seniors from Wildcat Athletics who graduate this Spring Semester. It has been a great experience working with all of these athletes throughout this year.
The Wildcats will now prepare for the 2012 football season which will begin Sept. 1 at Fresno State.
